Bellport Village Hall, in collaboration with Code Enforcement, would like to inform residents of a suspicious incident occurring outside our jurisdiction but in close proximity to our community.
Recently, several area residents have reported witnessing suspicious activity involving subjects in a vehicle driving around during the early morning hours and placing a single folded white sheet of paper into mailboxes. Shortly after these incidents, reports of vehicle break-ins, including “smash and grabs,” have increased. This marks an escalation from prior incidents involving unlocked vehicle doors.
Although no such incidents have been reported within our village at this time, we believe in the importance of being proactive and vigilant.
Code Enforcement reminds everyone that crimes often occur due to opportunities. Please take the following precautions:
Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
• Lock your vehicle doors at all times.
• Be aware of suspicious activity that may indicate an attempt to assess whether someone is home or away.
If you observe any suspicious activity, please report it to our Code Enforcement Department at [631-949-1956]. For emergencies always call 911.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation in helping to keep our community safe.
