Passing of Robert H. Lyons, III – September 1, 1935 – January 19, 2020

Robert H. Lyons, III, a past Bellport Village Trustee for eighteen years and a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Bellport, passed away at 12:30 am this morning, January 19, 2020, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Judith J. Lyons, his children, Robby and Samantha, and his grandchildren.

He is to be cremated and his ashes laid to rest at a graveside ceremony in May.  A Memorial Service will be held at a date to be announced.

Bob, was a kind and gentle man.  He was authentic and unique.  He honored family and friends as well as his country.  Who can forget Bob marching in Memorial Day parades and riding in the rumble seat of the antique cars of fellow-Rotarians, waving at the crowds?

In emergencies, Bob never failed to show up at all hours of the day and night and in all kinds of weather. He was really good at rounding up others to help.  We all admired his generous homespun philosophy.  His laugh was hearty when asked if he was “stirring up any trouble.”   His was the friendly voice at the end of the line, giving reassurance to those in need and comfort in the true sense of the word.

We offer our prayers to his family,

Rest in peace, Bob.

Our memories will be fond.

We have all been privileged to be in your company.
