Project Description:
The applicant proposes to conduct maintenance dredging of severely shoaled areas of Howells Creek
channel at the mouth, and remove approximately 600 cy of material by mechanical dredge from a 135-footwide, 340-foot long section of the channel in order to restore tidal flow and reduce flooding of the golf course. The dredged material will be placed on site and planted with native species.
Approximately 810 sf of vegetated tidal wetlands will be directly affected by the dredging, and
shoreline/wetland restoration measures including grading, COIR logs, limited rock toe protection, and planting of appropriate wetland and upland native plant species are proposed.
The project is located at Howells Creek, Bellport Country Club & Golf Course, 20 South Country Road,
Bellport, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County.

Project is an Unlisted Action and will not have a significant impact on the environment. A Negative
Declaration is on file. A coordinated review was not performed.

Cultural resource lists and maps have been checked. The proposed activity is not in an area of identified
archaeological sensitivity and no known registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic
structures were identified or documented for the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.
Coastal Management
This project is located in a Coastal Management area and is subject to the Waterfront
Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
