IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Recently, the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been reported as possibly linked with Pediatric Multi-System Inflammatory Syndrome, a condition that has features which overlap with Kawasaki Disease and Toxic Shock Syndrome.  While this condition is still believed to be rare, it can lead to serious complications and death if left untreated.  Parents are urged to pay close attention to the symptons of this potentially serious condition.

SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR YOUR CHILD IF HE OR SHE HAS THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS:

  • Fever higher than 101 degrees that lasts for a few days
  • Abdominal pain
  • Rash
  • Both eyes appearing red or pink
  • Swollen hands and feet, whcih may also be red
  • A swollen lymph node (or “gland”) on one side of the neck
  • Difficulty feeding (infants) or is too sick to drink fluids
  • Change in skin color-becoming pale, patchy and/or blue
  • Lethargy, irritability or confusion
  • Decreased amount of frequency in urine
  • Racing heart or chest pain
  • Trouble breathing or is breathing very quickly

THE LINK BETWEEN COVID-19 AND THIS CONDITION IS NOT FULLY UNDERSTOOD.  IF YOUR CHILD EXHIBITS ANY OF THESE SYMPTOMS, MONITOR THEM CLOSELY REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
